Hello, I'm David and welcome back to another Mojo minute. What if someone told you there was finally a vaccine for the common cold. When experiments suggest a good night's sleep may be the answer, participants in this study reported their sleep quality for 14 consecutive nights, then they were quarantined and given nasal drops, containing rhinovirus, the common cold. Researchers monitor participants for the next five days to see if they developed a cold. This experiment revealed that the participants who typically have less than seven hours of sleep before being exposed to the rhinovirus were nearly three times as likely to develop a cold, and great negative wisdom comes to us from Tom Rath, and the great little book called Eat move and sleep. So it appears based on the research, the way to give yourself a vaccine. And, Lord, help us, we're hearing all about vaccines these days. Vaccine vaccine vaccine. The way to give yourself a vaccine for the common cold is to get at least seven hours of sleep. Tom in his book, hammers home that getting eight hours of sleep is the most important thing we can do for our well being, but that's seven hours of sleep is not too shabby either. So let's not be a perfectionist, if we can get eight certainly let's get eight. If we can only get seven, that is not too shabby either. And if we really think about it, a good night of sleep, sets us up to be more likely to exercise the next day, right, and it sets us up to eat well the next day. We're not nearly as famished. And that helps us to be more productive at work because we're more alert, we're more creative. Our brain is humming on there was eight, or seven hours of sleep. So most likely we're going to be more patient with our families, we're not going to be nearly as irritable. Like I said, our creativity will increase and the list goes on and on. It's a great a great night's sleep is part of a very very good recovery program. So, today's Mojo minute, in keeping with our turning theory into action motto, what's the one thing you can do tonight. To get a better night's sleep. Can you shoot for eight hours, if not, how about seven. Let's recover well tonight so we can hit the ground running tomorrow. We can live out another flourishing day.
