Welcome to the theory to action podcast, where we examine the timeless treasures of wisdom from the great books in less time to help you take action immediately, and ultimately to create and lead a flourishing life. Now, here's your host, David Kaiser.
Hello, I'm David and welcome back to another Mojo minute. Did you know that up to 90% of your everyday behavior is based on habit. Nearly all of what you do each day, every day is simply habit. And that great quote by Mojo friends comes to us from Jack Hodge, in his powerful 115 page book, The Power of Habit of harnessing the power to establish routines that guarantee success in business and in life. And let's continue from the book with a longer form quote, we all know how difficult habits are to change. And we've established many reasons why this is so in order to change habits we have to change, we have to get the attention of communicate with and train our subconscious. This is no easy task. This is why it is important to attempt changing only one habit at a time. changing habits requires the power of focus. To illustrate the power of focus, consider the analogy of focusing on light. diffused light has very little power.
But you can concentrate the energy of light by focusing when rays of light from the Sun pass through a magnifying glass, the light is focused and now has the power to set fire to paper or grass. When light is focused further, such as in the beam of light from a laser, it can cut through steel, dang, cut through steel when it's focused. Ah, so focusing is quite important. Now we know. In fact, it's all powerful. So for me, I will say every time I want to change my habits, I am always choosing two or three or four habits at one time. Because my thought is always it can't be that difficult to simply change. Two or three or four small, just small things. Well, evidently, shame on me. egg on my face. Now obviously, because I'm not showing up on the front of changing habits magazine, I'm not the best person to discuss changing habits until now.
So for the last 32 days, I have not miss going to the gym every morning. But once Monday through Friday each and every morning, I have focused on going to the gym, period. Now speaking of focusing on just one habit at a time, let's get back to that book, such as the power of focus when it comes to changing our habits. focusing our conscious effort on changing one habit at a time gives us incredible power to reprogram our subconscious. Attempting to change more than one habit diffuses our efforts and drastically decreases our abilities to change our habits. And again, this is Jack Hodge in the power of habit. Now I didn't know about this wisdom regarding focusing before reading this book. But my gosh, that is so powerful. So how about you? What habit will you begin to change today? That will drastically improve your life? Now just go in hit the pause button and we'll wait for you to answer that.
No, seriously. We are all waiting for you to write it down. Jot it down on your phone on a sheet of paper on a post it something okay super. You have finally done it. Okay, and today's Mojo minute lets him remember how important it is. Focusing on just changing one habit at a time not afford a time like me. But just one. And finally, what's the one habit today for you, you will begin to change.
