Welcome to the Theory to Action podcast, where we examine the timeless treasures of wisdom from the great books in less time, to help you take action immediately and ultimately to create and lead a flourishing life. Now here's your host, david Kaiser.

Speaker 2:

Hello, I am David, and Merry Christmas 2023 to each and every one of you. As is our custom, our annual tradition at Christmas, we will have a reading of the traditional proclamation of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Nativity, and then we will follow that by some wonderful Christmas music. So sit back and enjoy our Christmas gift to you. So here is the reading of the Dominican proclamation of our Lord's Nativity on Christmas Day at midnight mass. Today, the 25th day of December, unknown ages from the time when God created the heavens and the earth and then formed man and woman in his own image. Several thousand years after the flood when God made the rainbow shine forth as a sign of the covenant. Twenty-one centuries from the time of Abraham and Sarah. Thirteen centuries after Moses led the people of Israel out of Egypt. One thousand one hundred years from the time of Ruth and the judges. One thousand years from the anointing of David as king, in the sixty-fifth week according to the prophecy of Daniel in the 194th Olympiad. The 752nd year from the foundation of the city of Rome. The 42nd year of the reign of Octavian Augustus Caesar. The whole world being at peace. Jesus Christ, eternal God and son of the eternal Father, desiring to sanctify the world by his most merciful coming. Being conceived by the Holy Spirit, and nine months having passed since his conception was born in Bethlehem of Judea, of the Virgin Mary, and became the man, today is the nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ according to the flesh, and, like I say each and every year, reading those words and hearing them pronounced brings me almost to tears. Now, last night, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend midnight mass at my parish, and so I will put a link in the show notes of the actual reading in person so you can see that video. You can also see our beautiful church, all lit up, wonderfully traditionally decorated, and the service was absolutely impeccable, much like it is each and every year by our Dominican friars. So this Christmas 2023, our message is contemplate that child. What child is this? Contemplate that child in the crib, put yourself into the scene of Joseph and Mary, as they adore, along with the shepherds and the angels. What child is this? The Christ child?

Speaker 3:

What child is this the Christ child? What child is this the Christ child? What child is this the Christ child? What child is this the Christ child? What child is this the Christ child? What child is this the Christ child? What child is this the Christ child?

Speaker 4:

What child is this? The Christ child? Gloria in excelsis Deo. Angels we have heard on high, sweetly swinging over the plains and the mountains in reply, echoing their joyous strains. Gloria in excelsis Deo. Gloria in excelsis Deo. Angels we have heard on high, sweetly swinging over the plains and the mountains in reply, echoing their joyous strains. Gloria in excelsis Deo.

Speaker 3:

Gloria in excelsis Deo.
