Speaker 2:

Hello, I am David and welcome back to another mojo minute in a special mojo minute. It is today is an independence day, July 4th, 2021. And most Americans cherish this day for it is our national birthday. On this day, 245 years ago at the independence hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, our founding forefathers gathered to sign their names to a document that was supremely bold. Yes, it set forth various grievances, but grievances had been heard in the past as well as protests had happened before. The brilliance of that document signed on July 4th, 1776, where they all the signers of fixed their names was the final irrevocable decision, which it asserts at the end, namely the independence of free states in place of the colonies and to commit to that goal quote their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor on quote, fast forward 245 years later to today. And this grand democratic experiment continues to be nurtured and Liberty and matures in independence. On this day in 1962, president John Kennedy spoke at that same independence hall in which the declaration of independence was signed. What he said, I think is very appropriate for our time. And here's what president Kennedy said, quote on Washington's birthday in 1861, standing right there. President elect Abraham Lincoln spoke at this hall on his way to the nation's Capitol and he paid a brief, but eloquent tribute to the men who wrote, who fought for and who died for the declaration of independence. It's essence, he said was quote it's promised not only of Liberty to the people of this country, but hope to the world hope that in due time, the weight should be lifted from the shoulders of all men and all should have an equal chance. President Kennedy continues on this day of July, 1962. We who are gathered at the same hall and entrusted with the faith and future of our states and nation declare. Now our vowel to do our part, to lift the weights from the shoulders of all, to join other men and nations in preserving both peace and freedom and to regard any threat to that price or freedom of one as a threat to the price of freedom of all. And for the support of this decoration with a form from reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor quote , what appropriate words for our times right now. And oh, by the way, the, the trip , uh, president Kennedy described of president elect Lincoln, taking to Washington DC in early 1961, excuse me, 1861. We covered that trip and a wonderful little book titled Lincoln on the verge. Be sure to check out the full mojo academy review if you are so feeling it. So this day is obviously sacred in the hearts of most patriotic Americans. It was as if there was a spark lit on July 4th, 1776, and a flame of Liberty grew out of that spark. That spark would 11 years later culminate in the constitution of the United States being drafted and written and ratified another great document by the way, in 1979, the great William F. Buckley said in a speech, these words, which for me capture the totality of this grand day, he said, quote, the constitution of the United States. And in particular, the bill of rights is essentially a list of prohibitions, but it is a list of things that the government cannot do to the people. Well , what a huge distinction, a majestic distinction, it grew out of a long empirical journey, the eternal spark of which of course, races to Bethlehem, to that star, that magnified man beyond any power of the ampers and gold seekers and legions of soldiers and slaves, a star that IM implanted in each one of us, that essence that separates us from the beast and tells us that we were made in the image of God. And we're meant to be free. America cannot presume to offer itself up in a frenzy of moral vanity as the secular reflection of the incarnation. But Americans can say, as Lincoln did that, our country was founded on the proposition that the government of the people by the people and for the people is the nature of American Islam . And that our ideals are proudly ours, unquote, what a great reflection on how a patriotic American views our country. So in today's mojo, and as we celebrate our country's national birthday, our independent state , perhaps you can take five minutes and start a tradition of reading the U S declaration of independence. I read it every 4th of July. I will put a link in the show notes to make it easy for you. It takes about five minutes. It would be a fitting birthday gift, I think of your time to our country. So I want to say happy independence, day America, and in the immortal words of that great, M may God continue to shed his grace on the little PS here. Ray Charles sings my favorite rendition of the song America. The beautiful, and I will include a link in the show notes. So perhaps you too can sing along with me today at wonderful tune to celebrate our nation sovereignty.
